Repeater as you learn in chapter 3
"Transmission Media " all media attentuate the signals they carry. Each media type, therefore,has a maximum range that it can reliably carry data.The purpose of a repeater is to extend the maximum raange of the network cabling.
A repeater is a network device that repeates a signal from one port onto the other ports to which it is connected (See Figure) Repeaters oprate at the OSI Physical layer Reapeater does not filter or interprited it merly repeates (Regenrated) a signal, passing all network traffic in all direction.
A repeater dosent require any addressing information from the data frame because a repeater mearly repeats bits of data. This means that if data is correpted a repeater will regenrate the signal anyway .
A repeater will even repeat a broadcast caused by multifunctioning adpter.
